Health Information Technology

NAU's Associate of Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) is an excellent career choice if you see yourself working in the in-demand health care field, but not necessarily directly with patients. As a graduate of this program, it will be your job to assemble patients' health information, making sure that patients' initial medical charts are complete, that all forms are completed and properly identified and authenticated, and that all necessary information is input into the computer.* Ultimately, the goal is to help consumers gather all of their health information in one place so they can thoroughly understand it and share it securely with their health care providers so they get the care that best fits their individual needs.** Graduates of the program are eligible to take the examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). This is contingent upon accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). *Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2008-09 Edition **http://www.hhs.gov/healthit/
